Florida 511 Mobile App for Android and Apple Devices
The Florida mobile app provides up-to-date traffic information on all of Florida’s interstates, toll roads and many major metropolitan roadways including I-95, I-4, I-75, I-10 and Florida’s Turnpike. The app offers text and audio updates, as well as camera views on crashes, congestion, construction and more.
The app uses GPS tracking to identify the users’ location and provide users with traffic information within a selected number of miles of their location. Users can set the app to provide information for a range of up to 200 miles from their location, view traffic in a select city or county by typing in a desired location or receive traffic information based on their registered My Florida 511 custom routes. Travel time information also is available based on location and direction of travel. App users can share traffic information from the app to their favorite SMS messaging, email and social media services.
Florida 511 covers the entire state of Florida including major roadways in Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Lake City, Melbourne, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Tallahassee, Tampa, West Palm Beach and more.
Navigating the Florida 511 App
The black bar across the bottom of the mobile app provides four icons to help you easily navigate the Florida 511 app. The four navigation icons are Traffic, Travel Times, Feedback and Settings. Select an icon to begin navigating the app for up-to-date traffic information.
Customizing the Florida 511 App
To customize the app to your personal preferences, select “Settings” in the bottom right corner of the screen. You can enter your phone number if you’re a My Florida 511 subscriber. If you would like to create a My Florida 511 Personalized Services account, click here.
In settings, you also can choose the mileage range in which you’d like to view traffic reports and select whether you would like to receive roadway construction updates. Set AutoPlay to automatically hear new traffic events when the app starts and select Background Audio to continue to hear audio reports when the app is running in the background on your phone.
Getting Traffic Information
Select "Traffic" on the bottom left corner of the screen to see a list of traffic events within the range you selected, as well as any events along your My Florida 511 Personalized Services routes. If you would like to view traffic reports outside of your range: Type in a city or metro area in the search box at the top of the screen to see incidents in that area on Android devices. Drag down the screen to reveal the search box then type or select from the drop down box a city or metro area on Apple devices.
All traffic incidents within your selected range can be viewed as a list or by map view. You can switch between the two views by selecting the icon in the upper left corner. Select an incident for more detailed information, including a map of the incident’s location. If a traffic camera image is available for that incident, a yellow camera icon will appear at the top of the screen. Select the icon to view the still camera image near the incident location.
Getting Travel Times
Select "Travel Times" from the bottom menu to see a list of segments and travel times in your area. If you click on the compass icon on the top right of the screen you can view alternate directions of travel.
Providing Feedback and Reporting Incidents
The "Feedback" option on bottom menu allows you to report traffic not currently on the 511 system or to leave a general comment. Select the option to report a Traffic Incident or provide a General Comment. To record feedback, press the record button and speak into your phone. Press stop when you’re finished providing a comment. Press the Play button to listen to your comment and select Send in the upper right corner to submit your comment.
